1. Water and Wine

Our journey begins at Her Majesty’s Customs House built in 1884, now Murray Esplanade Cellars Door, offering 30 or more wines and an extensive range of fortifieds. You must have a taste of the famous country cream, “Some claim it is better than Bailey’s”. We talk about the history as we wander through the authentic working river port. A cruise down the mighty Murray River on a river boat either the Pride of the Murray or the PS Canberra transporting you back to a bygone era, when these majestic boats plied the river daily. Check out the historic Port of Echuca Wharf from the water. Relax to the gentle splashing of the paddlewheels and watch the towering gum trees that line the banks of the river, slip slowly by, approximately half an hour.

Arriving at Morrison’s Riverview Estate*, Cellar Door, Restaurant, we leave the boat and have a short stroll past the lagoon up to the Restaurant. Here we enjoy a fantastic grazing lunch, sample a full compliment of quality wines, relax and enjoy the ambience of the location, this is always a highlight of the tour.

After lunch we take a short journey around to the recently opened Stevens Brook Estate Winery and Cellar door in the heart of the Perricoota Wine District where you par-take of a guided and informative wine tasting. The 20 acre property consists of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese and Verdelho grapes with the remaining portion planted with a variety of Olive trees. Something different and non-alcoholic Verjuice you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Back on the bus suitably relaxed and content we head to Silverfox Winery, a friendly Cellar door. Offering an extensive range of ports, which you can taste from the different barrels, makes an exciting twist to the tasting. What do you think port from a beer barrel will taste like? A great selection of wines such as Sangiovase, Shiraz, award winning Verdelho and those who like something sweet Foxy Lady are available.

Time for a power nap if the day’s activities are catching up, or a good gossip with a friend but it’s off to Cape Horn. Approximately 15 minutes out of town is located on a sand hill wedged between the Murray and Goulburn Rivers and is named after the river bend resembling Cape Horn on the tip of South America. Last but not least a sensational Cellar Door offering varieties such as Chardonnay, Marsanne, Shiraz, Durif, Zinvandel. Even a large chess set if you want to have a quick game.
